In order to meet the increasing global demand for nutritional powders, and to conform to the strict regulatory and validation requirements, Fonterra chose to upgrade the existing powder plant at their Waitoa site.
CTEK designed and built the Wet batching process automation software engineering, and the end to end batch reporting, including full electronic batch records (EBR) to CFR 21.11. Software was developed based on the GAMP model and the process included the addition of multiple streams of liquid and powdered ingredients at various stages of the composition of each batch.
A full Rockwell solution was implemented, utilising ControlLogix PLC’s and FTViewSE at the control layer. FTBatch and FTProduction Centre were used for the first time for the recipe and batch control aspects of the project.
